Temascal

temascalThe word “Temascal” comes from the Náhuatl language used by the Aztecs and means Temas-Bath and Calli-home. This ceremony was used by the Aztecs and Mayans as a therapeutic and purifying ritual that continues to this day. The Temascal is a round structure, symbolic of Mother Earth’s womb. Inside, participants will receive a purifying and therapeutic steam bath, which will return them to the origin of life, where they can find themselves. There, they will receive the blessing of the four elements: Earth, Water, Air and Fire.

During the temascal is a steam bath, as well as a spiritual and powerful experience. Four “doors” or stages are experienced. Each one of them is dedicated to a cardinal direction, an element, and an “intention” of healing the mind body, soul and spirit. The “door” is opened at each stage to allow the entrance of the sacred hot rocks from the fire pit outside. Water and herbs are splashed over these rocks creating a healing steam.

At this time you may enter into a meditative state, feel a deep emotional release or a physical cleansing which will leave you feeling relaxed and renewed.

While inside we will utilize prayers, chants, drums and other instruments to accomplish our purpose. We use these instruments to guide us through the Universe.
